A Holistic Approach to Wellness Design: How ECOTONE Balances Form and Function

Wellness-Garden

In the fast-paced, concrete jungle of New York City, it can be difficult to find moments of peace and calm. This is why wellness design has become increasingly popular in recent years.

At the forefront of promoting physical and mental wellness through design is ECOTONE.

Our unique approach aims to bridge the gap between design and wellness, creating aesthetically pleasing spaces that positively impact overall well-being.

Join us as we explore how we rely on our expertise to promote wellness, from Brooklyn community gardens to luxurious spas and saunas in the heart of Manhattan.

The Power of Wellness Design

Design is more than just aesthetics. It is a way of solving problems, communicating messages, and expressing values.

Design can also influence our mood, behavior, and well-being.

According to research, design can affect our wellness in various ways. It can:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety by creating calm and soothing environments.
  • Boost productivity and creativity by providing stimulating and inspiring environments.
  • Enhance social interaction and connection by facilitating collaboration and communication.
  • Improve physical health by encouraging movement and activity.
  • Support mental health by providing comfort and security.

At ECOTONE, we use design to achieve these outcomes and more.

We apply wellness design principles to every project we undertake, whether a residential, commercial, or public space.

We consider the needs and preferences of the users, the context and purpose of the space, and the environmental and social impact of the design.

Moreover, we use innovative design techniques, such as biophilic design, green building, and smart technology, to create sustainable, functional, and beautiful spaces.

How ECOTONE Creates Unique Community Gardens

One of the ways we use design to promote wellness is by creating unique community gardens.

Community gardens are places where people can connect with nature, each other, and themselves.

Community gardens have many wellness benefits. They can:

  • Provide access to fresh and healthy food.
  • Improve air quality and reduce noise pollution.
  • Increase biodiversity and support wildlife.
  • Foster social cohesion and civic engagement.
  • Enhance mental health and happiness.

ECOTONE has created several community gardens in Brooklyn, one of the most densely populated boroughs in NYC.

One of our Brooklyn community garden projects includes:

Mid-Century Modern Wellness Garden (Astoria, Queens)

This garden is a serene and secluded sanctuary for a prominent NYC psychoanalyst and their patients.

It offers a soothing outdoor lounge where they can experience the healing power of nature and mental wellness.

The garden is crafted to endure for years with a gravel base, repurposed bluestone pavers, and concrete stairs.

It also showcases original mid-century modern furniture, planters, and native plants with drip irrigation.

A cedar fence and a stone wall made from salvaged bluestone and marble add elegance and privacy to the garden.

How ECOTONE Builds Luxury Spas and Saunas

Another way we use design to promote wellness is by building luxury spas and saunas.

These are places where people can relax, rejuvenate, and pamper themselves.

Moreover, people can enjoy the benefits of heat therapy, aromatherapy, and hydrotherapy when they visit a premium spa, sauna, or steam room.

Some of the many wellness benefits of spas and saunas are that they can:

  • Relieve muscle tension and pain.
  • Improve blood circulation and skin health.
  • Boost the immune system and metabolism.
  • Detoxify the body and mind.
  • Increase happiness and well-being.

New York City is one of the most stressful cities in the world, and we are proud to say that we’re doing our part to enhance its wellness.

Building spas, saunas, and steam rooms are another way ECOTONE uses design and construction to promote wellness.

Some of our projects include:

Hard Rock Spa (Atlantic City, New Jersey)

This prestigious project demanded bespoke double-tiered sauna benches with backrests, light coves, and elegant wall panels.

ECOTONE designed and custom-crafted the spa with meticulous attention to detail and worked seamlessly with the New Jersey union trades to ensure flawless installation and compliance.

Hudson Yards (Hudson Yards, Manhattan)

This exquisite, high-rise spa, nestled in the heart of the Hudson Yards complex, showcases our unparalleled craftsmanship and expertise.

We collaborated with the finest engineers and architects in the city to create a bespoke sauna and steam room that elevate the senses.

The result is a stunning oasis of relaxation, featuring textured walls, custom benches, a heat retention system, a 2-layer sauna structure wall, and artisanal millwork, stonework, and glasswork.
