Mid-Century Modern Wellness Garden

Astoria, Queens

This garden serves as a backyard retreat and an extended outdoor ‘chaise lounge’ for a prominent NYC psychoanalyst. Patients seeking mental wellness will feel embraced by a comfortable indoor lounge and this warm, private open-aired wellness garden. The new landscape will provide proper drainage for many years by incorporating a tamped gravel base with upcycled dry-laid bluestone pavers. Insitu cast concrete stairs, original mid-century modern planters and chairs, retaining walls, and native plants surround ground-level plantings with integrated drip irrigation. Finally, wrapping the garden is a cedar privacy fence with a handcrafted dry-laid stone wall made from salvaged blue stone and marble accents from the original backyard.

Concept Design

Featured is our social wellness lounge, where guests can experience an atmosphere incorporating cutting-edge wellness technology with a combination of natural materials, textures, and organic elements. In addition, users will benefit from fresh salt air halotherapy, full-spectrum artificial daylighting, and integrated planting areas, allowing them to transition from their everyday routine to a comprehensive personal and social wellness experience.

Where do you operate?

Ecotone started in NYC and offers services to most of the tri-state area. As we explore our particular brand of crafting wellness environments, we have found a niche in NYC, the Hamptons, and the Hudson Valley.

Do you do both design and construction?

Absolutely! We can do all phases of the process, including design, construction management, ADA and DoH compliance, full-phase oversight, cost management, and quality assurance.

How much does a typical project cost?

The design phase starts at $6,500, including conceptual design and construction documents. Complete construction, which comprises custom fabrication and builds, delivery, installation, coordination, and handover, costs roughly $75,000, or from $1 to $5 million on commercial-grade spas.

Do you do commercial or residential projects?

Ecotone usually works on commercial projects but occasionally does residential projects when commercial-grade amenities are needed or requested.
